Nu Chapter Standing Rules
ARTICLE I NAME
The name of this chapter shall be Nu Chapter, Beta Gamma State Organization, The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
ARTICLE II PURPOSES
The purposes of Nu Chapter shall be the seven purposes of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and those of the Beta Gamma State Organization.
ARTICLE III MEMBERSHIP
Membership is in accordance with the Constitution, Article III and the International Standing Rules, Section 3. The chapter has full authority for the administration of membership.
SECTION A:
The membership of this chapter shall not exceed sixty (60) members.
Any member in good standing may invite as many women she believes qualifies for inclusion to any regular or special meeting of the general membership.
A qualifying woman may be officially invited to join Nu Chapter after a majority vote of members in attendance at any regular meeting. Vote may be done electronically. Invitation may be verbal and will be issued by membership chairperson.
Orientation of new members will be ongoing. Each new initiate may be assigned to a mentor, an established, active member for a period not less than one year.
Initiation ceremonies, if deemed necessary, may be held twice yearly, once in the fall and again in the spring.
Initiation duties and preparation shall be the responsibility of the membership committee.
Treasurer shall collect appropriate fees, dues, and initiate cards and report to the State Organization.
ARTICLE IV FINANCE
Financial matters are in accordance with the Constitution, International Standing Rules, and the Beta Gamma Bylaws.
Chapter dues and fees shall be determined by chapter vote and shall until a need for change is perceived and voted on by the chapter members.
Annual chapter, state, and international dues and fees shall be collected by the chapter treasurer. Treasurer shall forward international and state dues and fees, along with Form 18, to State Organization by October 15.
a. Dues collected shall include international and state dues and fees.
b. A three-tiered chapter dues schedule shall be in place.
1. If dues for coming year are paid prior to September 30, the amount shall be $75.00.
2. If paid after September 30, and prior to October 15, dues shall be $80.00.
3. If paid after October 15 and result in reinstatement, dues shall be $85.00.
Chapter assessments are for a special project and for one year only. Assessments shall be determined by chapter vote at any regular chapter meeting. Reserve members do not pay assessments.
An annual budget shall be developed by the finance committee, chaired by the treasurer. Treasurer shall present proposed budget at the October or November meeting for discussion. Proposed budget shall be voted on by members at the regular meeting in October or November.
Chapter President shall appoint a committee to conduct an annual audit at the September meeting.
ARTICLE V ORGANIZATION
Nu chapter shall govern the conduct of its business in a manner consistent with the Constitution, International Standing Rules, Beta Gamma State Bylaws, Beta Gamma State Standing Rules and the Nu Chapter Standing Rules.
Nu Chapter is a member of Beta Gamma State Organization and the Anchorage Area-Wide Council. Nu Chapter shall send a representative to each area-wide council meeting.
Nu Chapter is a member of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Northwest Regional Council.
ARTICLE VI OFFICERS AND RELATED PERSONNEL
Nu Chapter officers shall be President or Co-Presidents, Vice-President(s), Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, (all elected) and a treasurer selected by the Executive Board, in accordance with the Constitution.
Nu Chapter President shall appoint a Nominating Committee who shall prepare a slate of officers for consideration by chapter members by the March meeting of the second year of the biennium (even numbered years). Election shall occur by the April meeting. Officers shall be installed at the May meeting, a joint meeting of all Anchorage chapters during the Founder’s Day Celebration.
Elections shall be held in accordance with the Constitution, Article V1, Section C.3.
Nu Chapter President shall select a Parliamentarian, who is not an officer.
Chapter officers shall perform duties as outlined in the Constitution, Article VI, specifically:
1. President shall conduct the business portions of each meeting as indicated in the Constitution, Article VI, Section B.1.
2. Vice-President shall preside in the absence of the President as indicated in the Constitution, and shall chair the Program Committee.
3. Recording Secretary shall keep accurate minutes of each board meeting of the chapter and shall serve as secretary of the Executive Board.
4. Corresponding Secretary shall carry on such correspondence as may be delegated to her, including notification of chapter meetings and any pertinent information.
5. Treasurer shall perform all duties as indicted in the Constitution and shall chair the Finance Committee.
6. Parliamentarian shall perform duties as indicated in the Constitution.
7. Historian (appointed) shall keep a yearly record of the chapter’s activities and keep current history of the chapter.
ARTICLE VII BOARDS
Nu Chapter Executive Board shall be consisted of the elected officers, and the immediate past presidents as members, and the treasurer and parliamentarian as the ex-officio members, without
vote. Other members may be added, but are ex-officio, without vote. (Ex-officio means with vote unless it is stated “without vote”.)
The Executive Board functions according to the Constitution, Article VII, Section C.
ARTICLE VIII COMMITTEES
The following committees shall be the frame for the Nu Chapter work:
1. Program. The chairperson shall be Vice-President. Chapter members shall participate in the program development.
2. Finance. The Treasurer shall be the chairperson. Committee responsibilities are to supervise the financial affairs of Nu Chapter and to insure an annual audit.
3. Membership. Members assist in carrying out duties as indicated in the Constitution and the Nu Chapter Bylaws and Standing Rules.
4. Nominations. Members shall carry out duties as indicated in the Constitution and Nu Chapter Bylaws and Standing Rules. Committee shall function only in even-numbered years.
5. Personal Growth and Services shall function as indicated in the Constitution.
6. Professional Affairs shall inform members of State and National legislation relating to education.
7. Publicity shall inform the organization’s international and state publications and local media of activities of Nu Chapter and its members.
All committees shall be appointed by the Executive Board.
The President shall be an ex-officio member of all committees except the nominations committee.
All committees shall submit annual reports and conform to the Constitution International Standing Rules, and the Beta Gamma State Bylaws and Standing Rules.
Special committees may be appointed by the President for specific tasks as authorized. A special committee shall be dissolved when its work is completed.
ARTICLE IX MEETINGS
Nu Chapter meetings shall be regularly held between September and May. A minimum of four (4) meetings are required.
Special meetings and work sessions may be added when deemed necessary for an active and meaningful chapter program.
A quorum shall be the number of active members in attendance at any regularly scheduled or special meeting.
ARTICLE X AMENDMENTS
Any amendments to these Standing Rules shall be presented at a chapter meeting and a vote taken. If members have been notified prior to the meeting, a majority vote will ratify. If members have received no prior notification, a majority vote of two-thirds (2/3) of members present will ratify. In an effort to invite maximum participation, an electronic vote may be allowed.
